This box of varied LEGO parts *mostly* doesn't have that problem. There are some good ideas for models you can build in a thick instruction book inside, and some ideas on the box that I also found worth building, like the parfait (with layers? kind of). I like the set for the round 2x2 cylindrical bricks, but it has many, many other useful pieces, so it is a great source for miscellaneous and inspirational parts.
