I personally thought it was pretty gender-neutral; it has both a girl and boy figurine as well as a bunny, but as long as she is happy, I'm happy. The recipient is 8 and she had no problem constructing the set in about an hour. She loves the people and the different accessories. It feels a little smaller than other sets of the same price, but I would say is still good value for money. I personally really like using the ice rink to make my Lego ladies (as I call them!) figure skate.
