The winner's trophy is a nice addition to the minifigure. This set is very easy to put together. The instructions are very well laid out and easy to read. The only part a 5 year old might need help with is applying the sticker decals, but even those are easy to figure out and shouldn't pose much of an issue. I think the ages listed (5-12) are appropriate but I think all Legos should list just the lower age. For example, this set should be age appropriate for 5+. The car is very sleek and has nicely rounded features that make grabbing it, driving it and playing with it fune and easy. The roof comes off and goes back on easily so you can put the racer inside.
