There are a variety of different characters that are all over the place that you can collect from the Panda Guy to the Taco Tuesday Guy to Abraham Lincoln. This set of minifigs also has the most number of female minifigures in a single series with six. Although all the characters are tied into the movie, in theory you could possibly build an army with some of the minifigures such as a construction crew with Emmet and Gail, a panda army to take over the world, or a team of motorcycle cops. There are also a lot of parts and accessories that you can reuse in other themes like the different hairpieces, coonskin cap, and coffee cup. I highly recommend picking them up in preparation for the movie release. The bad guys. In previous minifigures series we've never had any good guys vs bad guys as a theme and only had different characters and personalities. I'm not too sure it works too well for a set with 16 different characters.
