My son lo es trying out all of the different things you can build with it. He also uses the book as a kind of starting point when he has aidea of his own. If you buy this make sure to get the lego power functions set to go with it. The only negative isn't so much the books fault but more legos fault. Lego does not(as far as I know) let you buy technic pieces. Nor do the sale a box of just pieces.
