It's a reasonable GWP, but it's not without its faults though. For example, it's too small to actually hold pictures, and it could have included more pieces for customization. Nonetheless, I'm quite happy with my GWP and it's worth a buy if you can find it for a cheap price.
There have been some decent free gifts in recent months, but some have had a rather silly spend limit. But the set limit for the DOTS Mini Frame seems about right. It's also nice that it's on a generic spend and not just tied to the DOTS products. As a build, it fairly simple but acts as a nice canvas for creativity. It would have been nice if a few more DOTS tiles were included but you can always just spare tiles from other sets or other DOTS products, such as the DOTS extra booster bags.
I feel like I say this every review, but I feel a bit torn. On the one side: The builds are boring. There is nothing special going on, and all just serve as a canvas for the DOTS. On the other side: The DOTS part of the sets are very nice. My kids love coming up with designs, albeit a tedious job to add the parts one by one. The goal of the theme is to spark creativity, and that it does. The theme is also met with a great response, both from adults and kids. On social media, I see many creative designs passing by. So I think LEGO hit the mark with the idea. If you want to do something else with your LEGO bricks than only building vehicles and buildings, this is a nice change of pass.
The Dots line has proven to be quite popular, and this GWP comes at a relatively low price point. That alone makes it a win in my book, though some will like it undoubtedly for the collection of decorative, colourful parts that come with it. It's disappointing there are no printed tiles included in the decorations, but not unexpected in that it's a gift with purchase. My only quibble is that the mini frame is indeed mini, and not many pictures that size can be found these days.
