The design is smart with the linking balcony and other interior fixings. The colors are very nice, too. We really enjoy playing with this set - my grandson and I love it !
I really liked this set. I enjoy the fact that it can be two different buildings, with a walkway from one to the other, or one building. It was very versatile. I thought the scooter was cute as a purchase from the toy store. The little train, (seems to be a Lego go to for toys), and the Wall-E on the wall, too cute. It inspired me to design other toys to add to it. The store has fruits and the paper, I get such a kick out of the Lego $100 bill. The architecture on the top of the buildings is fantastic, it really added an element of class to the set. And I love the colors. I do agree that there should be more than 2 minifigs for the two buildings, but overall, I really liked the set. I love it for my Lego city!
I'd recommend doing what I did - build the alternates first, then the main since that's how you'll want to leave it. I'd really like to see the price a little lower compared to other sets (again, the part count is inflated due to SO MANY tiny parts) and the finished building is tiny, but it's loaded with neat details.
It is a highly recommended set to complete our city and streets, very easy to build and full of details, all that means to be a very nice set.
This set is a real mixed bag in my opinion: while the main build is good, the news stand came across as being a filler design. While it's a reasonable set it does suffer for its scale, if it had been done more to the same scale as 31026: Bike Shop & Cafe then I think LEGO would have a nice lower price point version of the Modular line, but as it is, this set doesn't add to that idea. [...] Ultimately it's not a set I would recommend for adult collectors but for a child's playset, it's really satisfying to see the more everyday side of life represented and I would almost certainly consider it as a good gift for any children I need to buy birthday presents for.
Well, the main model is undoubtely the best of the three, it has a good number of small details that makes it a nice looking set. I like the ability to open up, it makes it useful both as a whole building or as a "street side". The alternate models are a much simpler, they use a small fraction of the available pieces (indeed they're both one story tall instead of two), but are still recognizable and detailed just like the first one. If anything, the building gets a little repetitive, as the three models share many techniques and some assembly. Of course they're three buildings so that's expected.
