I love this set, and I am thrilled that the LEGO® Group sent it to me. As a free set, I can find very little wrong with it. My only complaint is a poor brick-to-fig ratio. As a retail set, this kit would have received a poorer score. I estimate the value rating at 77%, meaning that the overall score would have been 87%. I know the Christmas X-wing will be a sought-after set for hardcore collectors. However, it already looks like it will be a costly acquisition. It is a really fun set though.
As someone who has had a passing interest in the LEGO employee Christmas gifts, I feel like the Christmas X-Wing is one of the best, if not the best. It celebrates the history of a beloved theme in the most imaginative way possible and is a total blast to build. While not a primary selling point for me, the play features that are included are enjoyable, and I love the callback to LEGO's early history with wooden toys.
I am not a huge Star Wars fan personally but I thought this festive build was a fun, whimsical take on a Star Wars icon. The igloo was an interesting combination of a clever stand and a knowing nod to Ole Kirk's workshop. The fact that the presents can be dropped from the X-Wing by flicking them off their single-stud attachments suggests playability, although I'm not sure how many of these sets will make it into the hands of children!
