I loved this set! I plan on getting another! It has several new parts like the 1 x 1 modified plate (flat pieces with rounded corner). Easy to follow instructions make this a good idea for anyone who likes LEGO. I would recommend for anyone at least 7 and up! If you are an AFOL (Adult Fan Of LEGO), this is a must buy, if you can find it!
As a freebie, I love this little set. I especially like the VIP sign, and all of the LEGO set stickers that adorn the shelves.
On closing I would say that the LEGO VIP set (40178) is definitely one of the better promotional sets I've been fortunate enough to build. I have to say I love the LEGO certified store and while I don't think the VIP wall is needed it does add an extra dimension to the set.
The set consists of two disparate parts which are both great but which don't really go together. Connected as instructed, I think it looks a bit odd. The shop is packed with details that will be recognisable to anyone that's been in a brand store. So much has been crammed into a small space, which is quite an achievement. I really like the way that Ollie the dragon makes use of space outside the box. The VIP card is cool but, as I say, looks a bit strange attached to the side of the shop. I guess the designer had to do something with it. Still, it's easily removed.
Overall, I feel that the VIP Set (40178) is one of the better gift-with-purchase sets that LEGO has released. The LEGO Store looks spot-on to the real one, as far as mini models go. The VIP card build also looks great as well but it does look a bit awkward when it is connected to the store.
