I ended up giving the set to my 3 year old daughter to play with, and she's loved making crazy little builds with all of the bright and pretty parts. This was a fun one. It's a shame it's no longer available! If you can find the instructions I'd recommend taking a look and making a few yourself.
I really loved this set. More than half of the models were either fun builds or great looking models. But the best thing is what this set allows you to do. You can't help but feel triggered into creating something of your own when handling the tray of parts.
In my opinion, there are too many colours, and too many parts not reused from one model to another. In honesty, I didn't actually make all the models; I preferred experimenting with the creative capacity of this set instead. Speaking of which, it wasn't easy with so many colours, and so many varied pieces. I also regret that some pieces are not as numerous as I expected. For example, we only have three round bricks; with four, we could have made car wheels.
It won't appeal to everyone, in particular those that like to build sets just to display, but if you want something to spark your creativity, it's perfect. It's also great for introducing SNOT building techniques to youngsters and it's not a bad parts-pack either.
Overall, the LEGO Creative Fun 12-in-1 (40411) set is a cool little summer themed set. The only negative I have about it is that you'll have to disassemble a build if you want to have another one unless you use your own parts. A majority of them will use the same parts so there's no way to have more than two built at the same time.
Although these sort of sets may not seem as exciting as some of the other promotional sets, especially some of the recent ones. But being able to create one of a number of minibuilds from a varied range of elements can be rather fun. Especially trying to decipher how many of the builds you can create at the same time. One thing I don't get is why the set isn't branded as part of the Rebuild The World campaign. If nothing else the set offers a decent set of elements. The spend limit is a little steep, especially if there is nothing you fancy at the moment. However, if you happen to be treating yourself to some LEGO sets next month, then this is a nice little bonus.
