True North Bricks

The Vintage Car comes free with qualifying purchases at the LEGO® Store. However, if the store sold this set, I would buy one. It is a fantastic little build that uses old bricks in fun new ways. The new model lost some of the great details from the original fan design though. Additionally, the Minifigures need more detailing. Those are minor issues compared to the overall beautiful and clever design though.

As a Gift with Purchase, this is certainly one of the more memorable ones, thanks to it being a LEGO Ideas set, and those into vintage cars or vehicles in general will love all the teal-y, retro goodness that 40448 Vintage Car oozes.

It's hard to find too much fault with a free promotional set, but even if I were paying $10 or $15 for this set, I'd love it. The Aedelsten Deluxe is a beautiful car that brings a much-needed touch of vintage class to the LEGO vehicle lineup, and teal and white are a gorgeous color combo. It's not flawless, but the nitpicks are minor. And with 188 pieces it's even a pretty darn good parts pack. What's not to like?

I get what the surfboard is trying to achieve -- the typical contours of 1950s American cars -- but because it's not flush with the sides it looks a bit too conspicuous and out of place to me. Thankfully, this is LEGO of course, so it is easily remedied. You'll need two 2x2 and two 1x2 teal plates to replace the white 2x2 plate with side studs behind them. Personally I think it looks much better without them.
