I like this set because it has 2 unique horses, watermelon, pie and a great play feature. I like how you can open the roof of the barn.
Building with Legos is one my favorite things to do with my daughter (recently turned 5). With a little bit of guidance, she can follow the pictured instructions and create fairly complex structures. Her attention span does not last long enough for a project of this size, but she was so proud of herself for contributing to the final project! She has been on a My Little Pony kick, and I rebelled against that obsession to a degree by getting her this set for Xmas. I figured the pony theme carried over nicely for this set, and she could use some of her tiny My Little Ponies with it as well. She loved it, and it was great to see her play with something other than her MLP for once! It also encouraged her to learn some new skills and apply her spatial abilities to build parts of this set.
There's plenty of construction play with instructions demonstrating how to build the two-story stable building, and equipment for the yard that includes two horse stables, and rooms for changing, eating, and resting, as well as a rotating horse exerciser, practice jumps, feeders, a trophy stand, and a grooming station. It took our TTPM builder about an hour to complete. Once built, kids can engage in hours of imaginative play using the horse exerciser to warm up the ponies, practicing jumps, grooming the horses, and then competing in the riding competition. The Mia and Stephanie mini-doll figures, and horse offer fun characters to include in the storylines. The set also includes interactive features for hands-on play. This is a fun set that fans of the LEGO Friends line will want to add to their collections.
If you don't own a horse-themed Friends set, this is a great set to start with! It's so much more than simple horse stables, and a LEGO Friends fan will surely have hours of fun playing with this set!
This set is a fairly simple build, but also a very enjoyable one. It's set very firmly into the play category, as it's meant for younger children, so the simplicity has a reason to be. And it's perfect for its purpose: the colours are both soft pastels in some items and vibrant in others, giving it just the right balance. The set also comes with two original horses, and the stall stickers give their names: Ninja and Spice!
