When I saw the summary of the new Elves line I could only think of the movie Labyrinth. The designs of dragon, however, was enough to win me over period it was never a question for my daughter, she liked the new designs and loves the Dragon. Unlike the other dragons in the elves line, this one only has two legs and wings instead of four legs and wings. It's more durable for playing than some of the other items in the line. We haven't had to rebuild this set yet.
I bought this for my daughter for Christmas and she loved it! It was a great experience putting it together. It was our second dragon in the Elves series. We also have the Water Dragon. Will be buying more soon! In my daughter's words she described it as cool! fun to play with, and a moderate piece to build.
The landscaping elements provided, giving us a small crystal mine as well as a water fall, fit in with the aesthetic seen in other elves sets, and the exploding play feature is fun to activate. I'll have to admit that by the end of the build I am no longer totally upset by spring yellowish green. I may even be coming to like it, so long as it is in the right context.
There is a subsidiary build to go with the eponymous dragon, which rather misinforms on how dynamite works – push it to active the explosion. Also included is one mini-doll, Goblin King, and one moulded goblin, called Jimblin. These aspects, combined with the printing on the dragon's head, do take the overall final aesthetic back towards the junior end of LEGO age classification. However, look beyond those and the distinctive colour scheme and you will discover a dragon well worth adding to any LEGO collection.
The dragon is an excellent model, and is definitely my favourite of the Elves dragons I've built so far. There have been some dragons in the Ninjago line that I prefer, but this set is a must for any LEGO dragon fans in general. For its price point the finished dragon is an impressive size, suits the Elves theme while being an excellent stand alone piece.
