The colors! The troll! The details! Oh my heck, this is the most adorable LEGO set I've ever seen. It's got this sweet little pod that closes on itself and can hold a good amount of the LEGO's - love the self containing aspect of that. The pieces are fun, bright, and obviously well made, you know, because they're LEGOs. There are some felt parts (the flower guy) that might not make it very long, though. But can I just say the face on the felt flower thing is hilarious? He/it cracks me up. I haven't seen the movie yet but now I kind of want to to figure out the treasure map thing. The directions are pretty straight forward, almost too easy so they're great for little kids. The price is on point with all LEGOs, a little pricey but definitely durable and great for open ended play.
We've bought every set in the Troll Wave one by one. As a Lego fan and Trolls fan, I kind of knew I would. My kids (4 & 8) have been playing with all the sets non-stop since the movie released. They're Lego fans. But I'm also an adult fan as well. These are so ‘movie accurate.' I love them. We've set up a little world where each corner is a different type of Troll. There are even six strings (like in the movie), found in the different sets. My son acts out the movie and ‘steals' the strings. My only wish is for more! More trolls. More different characters! So about this set. It's the simplest and probably the easiest build of the wave. The minifigure included is Poppy and she comes in all the other sets. So really, we were buying this one to have her individual pod. The best part of this set is the fact that the pod connects to the top of the Trolls tree. (We had to complete the tree!) It also comes with the little lightening bug and the map of the different kids of strings. This set is great if you're like me trying to collect them all. If you only plan on buying one Trolls set, I'd suggest the Hot Air Balloon over this one.
One of the things we really like about these sets is the Trolls hair play. Kids will have fun mixing and matching the hairstyles among the different minifigures and popping accessories in and out to create different looks. We also like the addition of felt pieces in each set, giving a nice tactile appeal to the building and helping bring some of the texture from the movie to life. And, of course, each set includes lots of the details and accessories that LEGO does so well to inspire a lot of imaginative play.
For AFOLs, it's not bad as a parts pack, and I look forward to seeing what creative uses are found for the pods. The price of £19.99/$19.99 is probably what you'd expect, but about 25% more than you'd want to pay.
