This is a super fun begining Lego set for kids just starting to move beyond duplos. My 3 year old had no problem putting it together by himself. It was way too easy for my Lego loving 5 year old. There are lots of the larger pre built pieces, which makes it easier to assemble. The blender, cash register, and fruits are fun to play with, and my kids are enjoying driving the juice truck around to their other Lego sets serving up smoothies. I do wish this set included more cups. I also wish it didn't have a martini glass and a daquiri glass on the food truck menu. A smoothie cup would be more child appropriate. The palm tree feels like it's lacking fronds when fully assembled. The truck is fairly small, about hand length (5") long when assembled. The dolphin mini figures are also super cute and fun to play with.
The set is much more appealing to me when built than it originally looks on the box. I don't know if this says something about the box art used for Friends, but this was also true of the previous Friends set I reviewed. The model is very bright and colourful, and contains a large amount of play opportunities. It was obviously quite appealing to my daughter, who is exactly the target market (or near enough), as she couldn't wait for me to finish with it in order to play. This is probably more important than anything else mentioned in this review!
I enjoyed building this set and could see it within a beach layout, or next to a beach house. Even with the chassis in its form, for AFOLs the color Teal is attractive. Plus, it can still be upgraded with a solid roof that comes off or opens, and maybe have the huge pineapple rotate. Having two mini-dolls in a set this size is nice. Especially since the torso prints are rare.
