Great experience! I love to build my own LEGO. However, I found that this one has limiting shapes; I do want some squares and triangles. I also noticed that the color of the dots is too bright, with high saturation. Maybe some colors with lower saturation will become more gentle and soft. Overall, it's a great set, which can be better with some modifications.
Crafty kids will love getting creative with LEGO Dots. We like that the line ranges from jewelry to desktop items, and that the larger kits include storage and sorting trays to make building easier. And all the crafts are super easy to change up whenever kids want a new look.
I feel like I say this every review, but I feel a bit torn. On the one side: The builds are boring. There is nothing special going on, and all just serve as a canvas for the DOTS. On the other side: The DOTS part of the sets are very nice. My kids love coming up with designs, albeit a tedious job to add the parts one by one. The goal of the theme is to spark creativity, and that it does. The theme is also met with a great response, both from adults and kids. On social media, I see many creative designs passing by. So I think LEGO hit the mark with the idea. If you want to do something else with your LEGO bricks than only building vehicles and buildings, this is a nice change of pass.
Despite its relative simplicity, DOTS seems quite different to anything that LEGO has created before and I am enjoying 41906 Pencil Holder. The containers are simple but creating distinctive patterns is satisfying and the selection of tiles is adequate in my opinion. Of course, adding parts from your own collection or 41908 Extra Dots - Series 1 would further increase the fun.
Time will tell if the LEGO Group has correctly defined how it should enter the arts and craft for children market, with this product offering a little bit of building and a fun canvas to decorate – but probably not providing much appeal for adult fans.
