Very nice product! It was quite a challenge to build it! However, it was very difficult to read the instructions booklet because of the black background. Brown bricks you could barely see. Looking for the instructions online is not an option since the whole point is to have no screen time. Additionally the instructions should be more clearer on where to insert the pieces (e.g. mickey mouse booklet nr 86, 7 etc)
There's a serious amount of elements that are unique to this set – red tubs, domes, new tubes, and bright colours galore. There's no play to this set, but the simple fact that it's so eye catching is worth the lack of play. Some LEGO sets are just not meant to be played with.
Displayed side by side on a shelf, these characters can't help but bring a smile. While many fans adore minifigures and models scaled for them, this is a reminder that something different can be equally delightful, especially when it is such a novelty. By evoking the personalities as well as the literal look of the duo, the designers have come up with something that is in contention for the best LEGO character set ever.
Whilst I enjoyed putting this together, I didn't think the end-result was perfect. I'd have preferred a more classic stance for Mickey and more poseability in the character's arms. And feeling the need to change an element of the sculpting to better capture the subjects' famous faces was a bit of a let-down. However, the rest of the design faithfully recreates two iconic characters, and does so through a lengthy building experience which is packed with clever techniques and smart parts use.
I really did think these looked a little iffy when first leaked. But once I saw a few additional images my opinion certainly changed a little. I think the era the character's appearance is based on adds to their seemingly odd look a little, especially since Mickey has changed greatly over the years. But the style used is a blend of their earlier adventures, with a twist of their modern-day look. Then I got to build them and I was won over, they are much bigger then I expected which makes them a striking display piece. They are also surprisingly sturdy, I've built a few sets which offer a unique shape to them and many can be a little fragile. But not these, they can wobble a little when moved but nothing drops off just by looking at them.
43179 Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse represents an appealing celebration of Walt Disney animation, faithfully recreating two classic characters. These models look splendid on display together and include outstanding detail, including some interesting construction techniques to achieve the utmost accuracy. The bright colours are particularly important as well.
Overall, I am impressed by the design and I think it looks great. AFOLs will be excited about the new parts. Disney fans will love these iconic characters. I found it to be a challenging build but not overly frustrating (other than being picky about the final arm positions). There are a lot of great advanced techniques - they may not be new for more experienced builders but for the casual or new adult builders they will be impressed. I think this would be a great build for AFOLs to build with their significant other even if they don't normally build with you.
