Overall, the build itself feels slapdash, with the absolutely minimal number of unique parts necessary. Similarly, whereas the sleeved box that contained the hand-picked parts for the NYTF-exclusive Boba Fett made that set feel “artisanal," the same type of interior bag used as the set's outer packaging makes the whole thing feel cheap. If we were designing something like this ourselves, we would also have included a message of appreciation to Black Card holders for their loyalty.
5005747 Black Card Display Stand represents a somewhat disappointing conclusion to the black VIP card promotions in my opinion. Free promotional items are always appreciated, especially when they include a unique minifigure, but this example is not particularly appealing. The stand looks bland on display and the minifigure's bright yellow hands seem out of place to me, although I like the unique torso.
So there is something distasteful about this set, which exists only to commemorate the cynicism of a company that wanted to push fans into buying the most expensive product it ever launched within three months of it being released. It is weird, and is arguably worth owning for the sheer novelty of such a strange set, but giving what it is more than a few minutes of thought makes it feel less appealing. Sets representing LEGO Stores are one thing, but a set that is about the LEGO Store card that encourages the accumulation of points to get discounts on future sets… where does this end? In a decade, will there be a set commemorating the anniversary of LEGO Star Wars 5005747 VIP Frame?
