Our grandson loves this set. We purchased it in conjunction with the "Mack's Road Trip" #5816. The policemen fits securely to the motorcycle, and stays on well during play. The light bar on back comes off and leaves a 2x2 stud area to mount other things. There is a 2x2 area on the bottom so you can connect the motorcycle to other bricks.
This toy was a huge hit with my 3yo--and his older siblings loved it, too. Two years later, he still enjoys playing with it. The success is in the details--from the flapping lid of the garbage can to the tiny bits of included "trash" to the rubber wheels, the little guy feels like he is practicing on the real deal. Some people complain about the fact that the pieces pop off, but from my perspective, that's what keeps these toys from breaking. I'd rather have a piece I can pop back into place when someone drops or falls on a toy (both have happened to this vehicle) instead of something that requires super glue to (possibly) fix. None of our Playmobil toys have broken, and I can't say that for any of our other toys, even if they're supposedly high-quality (and no matter whether they're wood, metal, or plastic).
I got this for my son and he likes it a lot. Your basically buy a toy motorcycle with a man and a block or 2. I would say this is a companion product to a big box of blocks. I would not buy this as a first Lego gift I recommend getting as big a box of blocks as you can afford and then purchasing this as a companion to the blocks. I personally thing that Lego toys are suppose to be about the fun of being creative and building things... this leave very little room for creativity but is a fun addition to the actual blocks. That said my son(3 years old) does play with it, with his blocks regularly.
