This set was one of my son's 8th birthday gifts. He loves Legos and especially the forest sets. He puts them all together to make a sure lego world. Anyway, he built this set by himself in about 45 minutes. It is truly one of his, and my, favorite sets he owns. It is very detailed, the bear and honey are adorable, and the guy washing in the tub is hilarious. This one doesn't fall apart easily, unlike some of the Lego sets that are filled with "one snap pieces", and is really a blast. I highly recommend this set for any kid or adult who loves Legos.
Lower the loot with the crane-arm and wear it as a backpack, or toss it in your buggy for a quick getaway. But before that crook can get far, the cops are in pursuit. Lower the string and hook for a daring arrest, or use the net-shooter. Meanwhile, back at the hideout, it looks like the other crook picked the wrong time to bathe, and the wrong place to put the tub - right over a beehive filled with delicous honey.
It's one of the rare sets where you feel like you're getting so much more bang for your buck, which is a huge selling point with LEGO these days. Casual adult fans can enjoy the set's cheeky sense of humour, but this set will absolutely delight younger kids who will undoubtedly appreciate all the play potential that this set offers. If you know of a young LEGO fan, this set would absolutely make a terrific gift for him or her. Even as an adult, because of the presence of the bear, bathing criminal and beehive, I can easily recommend this set, especially if you can buy it on sale. Overall, I'm really pleased with what the set has to offer. It's a definite must-buy if you're a fan of LEGO City.
I understand that there are some big, special pieces in the set such as the mountain piece, beehive, bear, and helicopter cockpit, but $60 for a 300 piece set is a Price Per Part Ratio of $0.20. For those of you who don't know what price per part is, it is an estimate of how much each part in the set would be worth, making up the total cost of the set. The average ratio for a fair-priced set is $0.10, so this set is definitely not well priced. Otherwise, the bear is a beautiful recolor of the polar bear and grizzly from the forest police station back in the day. The hide out is wacky and funny, and the buggy has a good design. The helicopter, while unoriginal, looks good from the outside, but it is very hard to put anything inside, as there is only one opening, and now doors. Overall, if this were at most a $45 set, I'd give it 5 stars. Get it if it is on sale somewhere!
If you want a LEGO® black bear, this is probably the cheapest way to get one. The only other set it comes in is the Mining Experts Site (60188) which costs $129.99 in Canada. But, Mountain Arrest is a really bad value, even at 20% off. I love the black bear, and I quite like the police helicopter. But, you are paying an atrocious price per brick, and you don't get much build time for that price. The Minifigures are, however, excellent, and you get the aforementioned bear. If you like to collect LEGO® animals, I would suggest waiting for a sale.
