I was in Toys R Us in Canada looking for some clearance items and on a whim picked one of these new sets. I love the starter sets. This one is geat in every way. Cool pcs, I like the frozen dragon fly pc. The dog is awesome. Really cool Mini Figures with nice printing and interesting accessories like snow shoes and hats/helmets. The snow mobile and trailer look really great as a LEGO vehicle and something I knew about with this theme that is much more striking in person is the colour scheme. It's so nice. The Orange and Blue look really good together. Over all, this little set exceeded my expectations in every way and makes me want more Arctic sets. I'll definitely pick up at least one more of the larger sets in the City Arctic theme in the future. Now LEGO, all we need is some white base plates.
All in all, this is a good little set. The minifigures are not bad even though I would have liked one more, and the builds are okay (though a bit plain/simple). Playability is fine – I like the suggested story but it can get a bit old after a while if this is the only LEGO Arctic set you have. The price is perfectly fine too.
Overall this is a great little set. If you're looking for a cheap way to get some of the unique pieces for the 2018 Arctic line, this one gives you the Ushanka hat, the bike helmet, and the printed frozen bug. If you're a kid looking for creative play value, this set also delivers. It's not the most amazing in the piece/price department, but $10 sets very rarely are. It's probably not something you'll buy multiples of but it makes a nice little purchase.
Even after playing with LEGO for 40 years and writing reviews here on TBB for the past 12 years, I haven't lost that sense of joy from opening a new LEGO set. But it's not often that I'm genuinely surprised. I grabbed 60191 Arctic Exploration Team when I picked up the two sets we reviewed previously, thinking it would be nice to have a few more of the new minifigures — especially the new earmuff hat in another color. I wasn't expecting much from the set, but I'm deeply impressed with the sense of wonder that the LEGO design team have managed to build into such a small set by including the unexpected dragonfly piece.
I immediately liked this set, and it hasn't disappointed me. Another Arctic return hadn't brought something new, and look mostly like remade jungles, but it's a depository of interesting parts. Unfortunately, they have changed colour theme again, but arctic bright orange looks much better than Jungle bright yellow.
I have developed high expectations for CITY Starter Sets over the last several years and 60191 Arctic Exploration Team is definitely a worthy addition to the range. The individual minifigures are all excellent and I think the snowmobile and ice formation epitomise the entire subtheme remarkably effectively, even featuring a tiny insect frozen in the ice. However, the presence of only three minifigures feels disappointing, particularly in relation to previous Starter Sets such as 60171 Mountain Fugitives. The husky is a wonderful alternative to a fourth human character but an additional explorer, perhaps dressed for mountaineering, could probably have been included too. Nevertheless, I would undoubtedly recommend this set to those looking for a flavour of the new Arctic collection.
