I usually buy a people pack or two to put into Easter Eggs instead of candy. Everyone loves minifigs, even if they're not into the rest of Lego. This year, of course, Easter was just my daughter, no cousins. There are so many great minifigs in here. Bonus alien head as well, which could easily transition into a character with some extra minifig parts. The robot and welder are also great additions. If I ruled the universe, these would have had classic space logos on them, but I will heal ok. I have the Benny packs.
If you compare Space Research and Development to the Collectible Minifigure Series, you are getting a good value for each Minifigure in the box. Additionally, the characters and builds are fun, and science based. This set loses points for me because the characters are not unique. If you plan to collect many of the kits in the Mission to Mars theme, you will get variants of all of these characters. That negates the need to acquire this people pack.
LEGO City 60230 People Pack – Space Research And Development set has so many strong points and features, it almost feels silly to criticize it for any reason. Of course, some builds are a little bit weak and the design team could have included a couple more minifigure accessories. But the purpose and the idea of the set are so great, the set looks like a perfect set to start for a LEGO space collection. No doubt you will build your own spaceport and spaceships, and this brilliant collection of minifigures can easily give inspiration for this.
LEGO has now produced five different People Packs, all of which are impressive. 60230 People Pack - Space Research and Development maintains the established high standard, although its limited range of exclusive elements seems rather disappointing. Furthermore, I think a Mission Control flight director should have been provided, perhaps wearing a white waistcoat in reference to Gene Kranz.
