Main Square

Main Square (60271) is a huge set. However, the value of the set is only satisfactory when compared to sets overall. City sets tend to be pricier than other themes though. Once you get past the price, the set is a lot of fun. I enjoyed several of the builds because they look good or provide me with inspiration. Additionally, the set has 15 Minifigures, some of which are currently unique to the kit. Finally, Main Square is also a family friendly experience. Each build has its own manual, and there are varying levels of difficulty. Therefore, you can easily sit down and have a family build night with this set. I enjoyed this set more than Capital City and City Square from years past. more less

I started of as a cynic, but I have come to appreciate the details included in this set. In its primary goal: presenting a set to be build by a family working together, I think it is excellent. As useful additions to a LEGO City layout – it provides some new builds, that have not been presented in sets in recent years. more less

The set over all is pretty cool, it is lacking (in my opinion ) some key elements for fun. No road plates or even a base plate comes with this set, (that made me sad) also what ever happened to kick stands for the motorbikes? all my newer sets, none of them come with kick stands and all the motorbikes don't stay up. Finally my comment in general about the newer sets are , Lego your trying too hard to make special pieces, go back to classic style buildings ones that lock into place by smaller bricks and get rid of all these 1x2 at 4 high, the walls don't hold and buildings fall apart when played with.. more less

While there's a lot in this set, there's not a lot of substance. Younger kids will probably like it and the minifigures are decent, but for me, the set was disappointing. It's overpriced and just feels rushed. If you're a fan of the LEGO City Adventures show, you may want to pick it up, but for everyone else, I'd give it a miss. Save your money and go for a modular. Either that, or wait until it goes on sale. more less

Don't get me wrong, the set is a lot fun for kids thanks to the sheer amount of stuff you get – vehicles, minifigures and buildings that it's a great playset, and my 4 year old thoroughly enjoyed playtesting it when we had it in her LEGO pile. But for AU$279.99 / US$199.99 it's not worth the money at all, and there are better LEGO sets you could buy that are either better value, or much more fun and appropriate. more less

At the end of the day, if you're a younger builder or a City Adventures fan, you'll probably be happy with this even at full retail. If you're not in those demographics, wait for a sale, or pick up some City sets that focus on just the sub-themes that appeal to you. more less

This is a tricky set to offer an overall opinion on. Is it overpriced? Yes especially as it's so connected to a show aimed at kids. Does it feel like a random collection of elements which would have been better suited to smaller sets? Again yes, but they are all aspects of things you'd find in a city environment and are no more disconnected than other similarly sized LEGO City sets. Yet it's worth remembering the target audience for this set is younger LEGO fans and they will love bringing their own LEGO City Adventures to life with this. more less

The age recommendation of 6+ reduces the complexity of construction techniques which the designer can implement, both 60097 City Square and 60233 Donut Shop Opening shared the same age recommendation and features far greater detail. Additionally, the price of £169.99 or $199.99 feels expensive, despite the extensive range of models included. The exclusive minifigures may appeal to fans of LEGO City Adventures but I would not recommend this set. more less

If what you want are small sets that adds atrezzo to your city diorama, and complement those that come in “Donut Shop Opening" (60233), “City Square" (60097) and “City Corner" (7641) this is a good set to get, without great expectations but for that purpose gives good results. If instead you are looking for a city set because you like the theme, and/or because you want to enjoy with its bricks, unfortunately I cannot recommend it, I think it lacks some details to enjoy the construction and even improve the gameplay. more less
