From the looks of things the Quinjet is going to be an integral part of the movie, but even divorced from the movie tie-in, this is a great model. It's the true center of the LEGO Avengers universe, it's really fun to play with and it looks great. If you have the funds, I definitely advise you to buy it.
I think out of all the Avengers sets that have come out, this is my favorite. The Quinjet is sturdy enough to play with and has many features. And this set actually came with 5 minifigures, including Iron Man with the flip-up face plate. I think the only part lacking was the Loki's chariot. It seemed like a last minute thought. If you angle the chariot they way it's supposed to be, you can't stand it up on its own very well.
My 10 year old is a LEGO maniac! He asked for several sets a year. Last Christmas he asked for this set and I was skeptical as it has several hundred pieces. Did I mention I ordered it on 12/22 because I forgot to order sooner?? I was so nervous that it would not be here on time. I was overjoyed when it arrived on 12/23 and I do not have prime?? It was supposed to arrive at 8pm on 12/24; however the sender got it here much earlier. That was a blessing!Fast forward to Christmas, my son opened it and everything was as expected. My son went into his room and put that Quinjet together over the course of a few hours. He was so happy and so was I.
The Quinjet is a magnificent vehicle. I know I've sung its praises over and over again throughout this review but I can't stress it enough: this thing is made of pure cool. Loki's chariot just sorta being there is more than easily forgivable in light of how plain cool the Quinjet itself is. And the minifigs, but, again, the Quinjet is just cool. That's the only word for it. Cool.
This is a remarkable set for being in a licensed theme. It oozes a quality not seen in so many licensed sets, whether they're from Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Wars, or Harry Potter. It's a rare set among the mediocrity. It works beyond its license, while maintaining the characteristics that make it part of the Marvel line. It is by no means an iconic vehicle, but LEGO managed to make it one of the most accurate Avenger's sets in respect to its on-screen counterpart.
