This LEGO series is so cool. I haven't even tried the AR component. The ghoulish sea captain and albino alligator are two of the coolest elements I have seen in a while. The shrimp boat itself is charming and the splitting shipwreck feature is perfect!
The Wrecked Shrimp Boat (70419) is a good set, but not a great one. The real selling points are an excellent selection of Minifigures and an awesome albino alligator. The value at full price is good. However, the set is getting old, so you stand to get a good liquidation deal on it. In terms of negatives, I wish the boat had more substance. While I enjoy the wrecked alternate display, the bricks that build the haunted rocky outcrop could have made a more complete boat. All the same, I think the Wrecked Shrimp Boat is worth the purchase for the characters and the alligator.
I'm not a huge fan of Hidden Side but this set is an exception, Ive never played the game, i bought it because it goes great with the Old Fishing Shop. I love this set for its price, its a very sturdy and good looking set. If you like this set I would recommend the Hidden Side Shrimp Shack.
For $50, it's good value! It looks great, has some quality new elements, and because of those elements, it'll be collectible. So far, Hidden Side seems to be a winner!
As a LEGO set, this was a huge breath of air, and I fully enjoyed the entire experience. It's not mindblowing in any sense, and this set won't become an instant classic, but I really liked the entire package.
Although one of the smaller Hidden Side sets, it does have some nice little details. I'm not sure I'm a fan of the split function, although it looks a little better once mounted on the rocky outcropping. The boat does feel a little small, but for a two manned crew vessel is feels about right.
I have already seen this set discounted to £20 in the UK (£5 saving in a nationwide supermarket) and it is a great little set especially if you get it for that price. The two fishermen and their ship will be attractive to youngsters and the added play features of a monster and the ability to shipwreck your ship provide extra fun for all.
The minifigure selection is exceptional and I think the shrimping craft looks tremendous, striking an ideal balance between realism and fantasy. I am especially pleased with the concealed colour wheel and look forward to exploring its interaction with the app.
The design team should be commended for the amount of care and attention they have poured into this new theme. Exclusive parts, exclusive animals and exceptional minifigures are a real highlight. The paranormal concept feels incredibly cohesive and is evident throughout the entire set. The Hidden Side mobile game might not offer much in terms of longevity but as an introduction to the theme, and as a LEGO set in it's own right, 70419 Wrecked Shrimp Boat is not only well worth adding to the collection but is phenomenally good value for money too.
