Vermillion Invader

Another winner! Nice selection of bad guy figurines--a must for my little guy. Also, LOVE the eggs that you shoot and pop open so snakes fall out. This set is so much fun. Took half the afternoon to build and little guy's been playing with it ever since. This is the kind of set that makes me feel good putting my money into Legos. more less

This set is one of the Lego Ninjago: Masters of Spinjetzu Season 7 sets. I love this set! Here is everything in the set. Mini figures: Zane: 9/10 The printing of him is out of this world. The mask is silver and white. Kudos to the great face print. Slackjaw: 8/10 I like the new double molded helmet and weapon. I just wish he had armour. Commander Raggmunk: 10/10 Again, the helmet and new double molded piece on his weapon look great. I'm happy with the armour. Landscape build Overall: 7/10 I like the little details on the build. I think it provides a nice place to hide for Zane and a nice target for the Vermillion to shoot at. Though, when it's shot at, it falls over annoyingly. 3 little snakes: 9/10 Great to get! Invader Overall: 9/10 The best part is the triangular shape. The tread works nicely and does not irritate me at all. There are lots of stickers in it but luckily they can be left out without really effecting the look. The snake details are nice. I like the metallic copper. The egg shooting feature is perfect and there are multiple ways to use it. The worst part is that some technic can be seen. Overall (the whole set): 97% Put together, this set is the best Ninjago set I have gotten in a while. I totally recommend it. more less

The Vermillion Invader has a lot of nice detail and action features that help to bring the “Hands of Time" storyline to life and make those good-versus-evil battles that much more fun. Whether recreating scenes from the TV show or making up their own Spinjitzu stories, this construction set will inspire a lot of open-ended, narrative-based play. more less

Overall, the Vermillion Invader is a bit of a mixed bag. The overall model has some excellent building techniques includes, as well as a neat catapult action feature. However, it doesn't really look like anything remarkable or stand out, which hurts the model compared to some of the other Ninjago products. It includes some nice pieces and the Vermillion figs are cool, but the real draw is the exclusive Zane minifigure. I wouldn't recommend this as the first Ninjago Hands of Time set to purchase, but if you are interested in picking this set up, then the pieces, figs, and general design tricks will be well worth it. more less

After all those interesting elements, the build itself was still a lot of fun. Some clever technic underneath helps to build out the wedge shape, but gets hidden under a series of sub-assemblies. Because the whole thing balances on the central track, it tips over fairly easily, but when I let my son (well within the target audience) play with it, he loved it anyway. more less
