We got this set for our 4 year old for Christmas. He needed quite a bit of help putting it together, but he is really good at doing the sets himself, so he was able to do most of it. The difficulty I have with it is it doesn't stay together. If he carries it from one place to another to play, the bottom sides fall off, and one time they fell off and a majority of the top of the volcano fell completely apart. We've had to reinforce it with additional Legos, which works, but was inconvenient and frustrating to realize after having it fall apart. All in all though, this is a great set for Ninjago fans. Our 6 year old and 10 year old boy love it too.
Well this was a hard set to review. On one hand it looks and feels like a cool set, but on the other it just kinda feels to simple. I built it decently quick and I placed it on the shelf with the rest of my Ninjago Movie sets. When I saw this one up amongst some of my favorite LEGO sets ever it kinda felt weak in comparison. Not to say this is a bad set because its not. It has a good part to piece ratio and some cool minifigures and the finally product is actually pretty cool! I just wish it was more detailed or was bigger. Overall, its a fun set with just a few set backs.
LEGO's popular Ninjago series has brought us many fun building playsets, and this is no exception. The Volcano Lair has lots of imagination sparking features from molten lava accents to a projectile mountain top. Especially cool is the construction zone with rotating crane to lift the the deadly shark figure.
Overall, I think this is a good set. It doesn't soar to the heights of some of the Year 1 LEGO Ninjago Movie sets, but I think it is a perfectly fine set and, honestly, is probably the best of the 2018 LEGO Ninjago Movie sets. The build itself looks pretty good, playability is good, price is definitely fine, but the minifigure selection could use a little work.
Garmadon's volcano lair is absolutely vast in The LEGO NINJAGO Movie and designing a model which captures the essence of the location at a relatively small scale must have been difficult. Fortunately, I think the designer has done very well, finding space for several fun play features as well as all of the major rooms seen in the film and plenty of charming references, my favourite of which is the tiny model of the piranha mech.
