My 8 year old son received this for his birthday and it took him a few hours to put together. This was the perfect level of difficulty for him, and perhaps it should be noted that he's been putting legos together for three or four years now. He loves to put together these sets that are suggested for older kids. As to level of difficulty compared to end result, it's excellent - he kept this particular dragon together for a couple of weeks before deciding to repurpose the pieces.
This is so cool! The best set ive ever gotten so far! (My next set is firstbourne) The minifigure selection is Okay. I just wish it came with stormbringers baby from season 9. It also has the exclucive Daddy No Legs minifigure who is challenging to build. But he is a very cool minifigure. It comes with Jay, Zane, Muzzle, and Daddy no Legs. Lets not forget the Dragon Armor! It comes with the dragon chestplate. By the way I already reccomended this set to my friend. He got it yesterday and he is enjoying it. My friend also has the old jay dragon, he says its fragile. This dragon is not that fragile so if you make it fly, it wont break in a looong time.
This is a great Ninjago set; a bit simpler than many of the other larger, more-recent, dragon-themed sets. It's perfect for new Ninjago fans or experienced pros looking to add more LEGO to their adventures.
Overall I think it's not bad. The minifigure selection is good enough and the build is fine, even though the head's a bit ugly. Playability is good too, and I think the price is very reasonable.
There will be obvious comparisons against 70612 Green Ninja Mech Dragon from the Movie range and as that set the bar quite high this isn't a bad thing. Make no mistake, this is a brilliant set and if you have the Mech Dragon this will happily coexist with it. If you loved the Mech, you will love this too.
