This set is just awesome. Galaxy Squad is absolutely the coolest Lego line I've ever seen, and the Vermin Vaporizer is the coolest set from the line (tied with the Eradicator Mech.) I am systematically collecting the entire GS line (I have 3 more sets to go) and the VV is so awesome I plan to get a second. I am very far from wealthy, so these larger sets are significant purchases for me, but they are totally worth it, and once I have them all I plan to set them up in a big diorama. These babies actually got me collecting Legos again as a 38 year old.
I'm gonna have to be frank - I'm a tiny bit disappointed in 70704. It's kind of hard to put my finger on why. It could have something to do with the unexpectedly small size of the set - it's rather tiny for $59.99, even when compared to the Star Slicer. However, the Vaporizer is competently designed, and I can't really identify any outstanding issues. I'm just not floored by it. I was expecting brilliance, something to stand toe-to-toe with 7066, and the Vaporizer falls a tiny bit short of that revered status.
The large buggie, the neat figs, and some impressive pieces make the $60 price tag unnoticeable. Commenting about playability, this set is plenty cool. The smaller sets settle for gimmicks like flick-fire missiles, but this large set provides more than that with mechs, a science station, small rovers and a bugger vehicle. In short: it's very fun!
