This set captures some of the magic that has been lost in recent years in the small-set range with the proliferation of battlepacks and minifig collections. This is a small set where the value is defined by the parts instead of the figures, and that's just wonderful. The last set I knew of that delivered this kind of value was the Venomari Shrine back when the “brick" bricks first came out. More than that, the set was fun to build, and did what so many licensed sets never have: they made me want to go see the movie.
At $13, you get a couple of protagonists in the movie as well as a bad guy. The scene depicts what may be a pivotal scene in the movie. For you builders, you get a lot of cool pieces and a lot of leftover pieces too after you've finished building the set.
My 3 year old adores Emmet and The Lego Movie. It's what got him into loving legos so much. I'm happy to have found this on Amazon as most of the Lego movie sets are discontinued. The set is on the small side but that's okay. The "melting room" comes with a movable laser gun, moving Lego stretcher, and the big laser guns platform can swing in and out. It also comes with 3 figures which is a huge deal for such a small set. Emmet also has two faces on front and back, one is smiley emmet and other one is Ahhh emmet. I'm not sure what the msrp is, I got it around $11.70 All in all, I highly recommend this Lego set and just note that it has lots of small pieces.
This is a fun way for fans of The LEGO Movie to recreate scenes from the movie or imagine all-new adventures for the LEGO characters. The moving parts and detailed pieces of the laser machine add lots of playability to this set.
This is a pretty cool set. I can't really fault it at its price point, as the minifigures are good and build works. Definitely a good cheap LEGO Movie set.
The build itself is another simple one, but I reckon there is plenty of playability in it for kids. Again, it's a good set for the minifigs alone! When picking it up it can have a bit of a mind of it's own, with the laser swinging around everywhere, but it's a minor gripe.
The Melting Room is an easy, time-friendly build and a good starter set for the rest of the theme, especially because there's potential for it to pair with Lord Business' Lair for a more complete experience. Failing that, it'll be seen as a quirky, compact display piece with some decent interaction to it.
Melting Room is a surprisingly good little set, surprising because I thought it didn't look so hot before I opened it up and built it. It doesn't scream buy as much as its sister set in this price range, Getaway Glider, but it's still worth picking up. The minifigures are good, especially the Robo SWAT. The model is pretty fun and looks good for what it is, but of course a little drab. The designer worked in some desirable parts, so for people looking for good parts, this has some.
For 20 bucks and even less if you manage to find it at 20% off, Melting Room is a really great buy. For a small set, it contains a disproportionate amount of useful parts and you get some decent minifigs as well. Put on display, it holds up pretty well as well. I think it's a lot better value than the smaller set counterpart, the Getaway Glider. That being said, it'll be one of those sets where I'll assemble and display for a short while before dismantling and harvesting it for parts.
While a very basic set, there's an obvious storyline to be played out here. With the moveable table and giant laser on a hinge that can move it in and out from the table, there's plenty of fun to be had.
The primary and only reason for purchasing this set, in my opinion, is if you're planning on collecting all the minifigures from the theme. As far as I know, many of The LEGO Movie sets have exclusive figures, and no doubt they'll fetch steep prices once the movie comes out and sets become discontinued. In this case, this set provides the (currently) exclusive hoodie Wyldstyle and Robo SWAT with cap, of which Wyldstyle is the most appealing.
Melting Room is a great little set for the price, and certainly one to pick up if you see it reduced.
I really enjoy this set and think I may bring it in to work to put on my desk. The set designers managed to cram a lot of playability into a $12.99 set, and it definitely shows. Plus, you get the two protagonists in the cheapest set they both appear in. If you want a taste of the LEGO Movie theme without doling out the dough, this is a great choice. If you're hard set on getting all the variants of the major characters you'll need to pick this one up too.
