Trash Chomper

I am a big Lego fan and so is my son. I will admit we have not seen the movie but my son loves trash trucks. This set is particularly cool and a solid value because it can be made in to both a trash truck and the trash chomper as seen on the front of the box. They are both nice models and I do believe there is a slight mark-up on this set because of this dual functionality, but not anything major.The challenge is that for playability of the trash truck, there isn't really anywhere for the trash to go, and it doesn't function nearly as well as some regular Recycling or Garbage Trucks from the Lego City line such as the last Green one or the Orange one from several years ago. The Chomper is cool because the jaws actually chomp, but my son who is pretty good with Lego had a hard time keeping all the parts on consistently. Overall, the Trash Chomper (70805) is a very nice looking set for both versions of the build and was fun to create. The set itself has some very good value with 389 pieces and coming in at $29.99. There are a lot of useful pieces that you can use for other vehicle builds. The minifigures are generic enough that you can easily incorporate them into your MOCs. more less

Kids love garbage trucks; it's that simple. They'll also enjoy the versatility of building and playing with two different models. Kids who have seen the movie will be familiar with the characters, but this is classic play all on its own as well. more less

Value-wise, the set is absolutely top-notch, and the alt-build is a great truck. The minifigs are generic in a city environment, but the garbage stains do somewhat limit using them elsewhere (unless your space deck hands are very messy eaters). The robot isn't quite as good as the one in Creative Ambush and the regular build is somewhat plain and boring. So I'm left with a set that's worth the money if you want the truck or parts, but not as much if you're just looking for some great Movie stuff. more less

I built the chomper first because I thought I'd prefer the truck and would leave it assembled for a while but actually, the chomper is the more impressive model of the two, the chomp action being particularly satisfying. Overall then, it's a neat set that makes a pair of impressive models, although IMO one is much better than the other. Although the truck is okay as a fictional work, I don't think it looks particularly good lined up with City 'great vehicles' due to the proportions being a bit out. more less

Overall this is a great set. It's full of great snot bricks and bright colors. The minifigs have nice character and they'd be welcome in any Lego city. With almost 400 pieces in a $30 set, I think this one is a no-brainer for any builder that likes that chompy model on the box. more less

This is a very nice trash truck. I'm not personally excited by trash trucks, since LEGO City has seen its fair share of those, but this one is still great. If you like good trash trucks, I'd think about picking this up. more less

I found all three models in this set to be fun to build and play with. I think the Trash Chomper is more fun than the normal Garbage Truck. It's an interesting looking model and even though it can only do one thing, that thing is pretty neat. more less

Despite any shortcomings, it really is a solid set. The garbage truck looks great, and the Trash Chomper is awesome. This is something that I believe will appeal to LEGO City fans especially - imagine seeing this in a city diorama just chomping its way down the street! At $30 and 389 pieces, the part value is pretty high too. This is just another set from The LEGO Movie that seems to exceed all expectations. more less

Now, I'm no aficionado of the City theme but I think the trash van is superb and would stand up as an excellent regular City set on its own. It's a realistic design and the grey bows on the sides really lift the design. The simple Technic function to open the compactor at the rear is great fun and quite hypnotic. more less
