Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP!

This set is a solid five. If we had six, I'd award it for the set on sale, but you won't be disappointed paying SRP for the set either. The only real risk is waiting at this point, because it won't last forever, and this has the makings of something that will spike on the aftermarket once it dries up. more less

For me, this set is the highlight of the LEGO Movie range. If you're a TLM aficionado, or a Space fan, or you like anything that flies, or you just want a cheaper Benny, then this set is a must. more less

The completed model is an impressive size: 50cm long and about 35cm wide with wings retracted. It's packed with details and features that can be moved or detached and I reckon it will provide a lot of play opportunities for kids. I particularly like the way Astro Kitty is positioned, like an astromech droid on many Star Wars ships. It's larger and more intricate than any original classic space ship but it retains their unmistakable look and colour scheme. The designers have made good use of new parts but have also used many that featured in the the original sets which I thought was a nice touch. Overall I think they have succeeded in bringing classic space right up-to-date. more less

It captures the nostalgia many older fans have and boxes it up into an awesome spaceship that anyone can enjoy. There's tons of details and features that make it fun to play with or to display. I whole-heartedly recommend this set! more less

My overall impression of this ship is that it was a fun and interesting build, with plenty to hearken back to the Classic Space sets of my youth. The ship has the gray engines, gray wings, blue body, and trans yellow windscreens we all love. It has a little lab inside, a radar dish, and some helper robots, just like old times. The set has tons of play features, some interesting construction techniques, and is SWOOSHABLE. It's a bit pricey ($100) but the 980 part count helps with this, as do the bevy of unique figs and elements. I intend to buy a few copies, and if I ever catch it on sale, I might go nuts. more less

I can find little to complain about. Positioning the figs is hard when you have all the canopies and hatches closed - Astro Kitty in particular. But she has a spacesuit on so can sit outside. Always put the cat out. And if I'm being picky; considering how many Classic Space design references they packed into this model, it's a shame there aren't proper bumblebee stripes. These are the small yellow and black stripes that appeared on the wings of the first Classic Space ships - 918, 924 and 928. Benny's Spaceship definitely references this by having yellow as the main colour chosen for "filler bricks" on the interior of the model, and in a couple of points on the exterior. But if I'm putting my purist hat on, yellow should only be used for small little bumblebee stripes. more less
