This is a great Minifig. He has printing on both the front and back of the torso and legs. The chainmail print on the front side is really nice. He comes loaded with accessories, including a helmet, shoulder protectors, a shield, and a mace. The mace is my favorite feature. This is the type of mace that Hawkman should have come with in the DC Super Heroes: Darkseid Invasion set. It really is the best part of this Minifig.
Unfortunately, the Knight doesn't quite hit all the same marks for me as the Astronaut did. For starters, the shield is a new design (I would have loved a new figure for my Black Knights army). Furthermore, the color scheme of the Knight is closer to the Forestman (or maybe Dark Forestman) than any other historical faction but the Forestmen never had any knights in their ranks (they were a sneaky bunch based more on Robin Hood than King Arthur).
love any knight related legos, wish they would make more classing ones like this, although nexo knights were probably closest we can get atm
I've said this before, but LEGO has continued to step up their game with the Collectible Minifigures theme and Series 15 (71011) does not disappoint. There are some minifigures that are more sought after than others but I see every single one of them having a place somewhere in the LEGO universe and in many MOCed themes.
The parts assortment for the Grim Knight is outstanding. Based on piece count, TLG is rather generous to include various essentials including a dark green plum. Upon revealing the nice fortified great helmet, you noticed a rather nasty looking appearance of the Grim Knight. The spiked pauldron is a surprising addition.
So my overall thoughts are its a damn good series I think we only got 4 weak minifigures, the rest were high quality. My top 4 were the farmer, Animal Control Officer, shark suit guy and the wrestler. Each time you wonder what LEGO can come up with next and yet they continue to really impress me. I love new elements that can be used in my own creations and series 15 is packed with them.
The Frightening Knight will definitely appeal to Medieval Army Builders eager to recruit and form a whole new “Bear" faction. Personally, while I'm a moderate fan of Castle-type LEGO, the Frightening Knight doesn't really appeal to me as it doesn't bring enough newness to the table.
It is worth mentioning that there are five female figures here to the eleven males, which is a fairly standard ratio now even though there are plenty of opportunities to make it an even split. The handicap guy is something fans have responded to well, pairing well with the upcoming wheelchair figure. The Shark Guy is pretty fun. We get a couple of animals. Everyone has their favorites, though most of the popular figs come with large odds in favor of fans. Basically, there is a little of something here for everyone, which is the best thing to be said about any Collectible Minifigure Series.
I like this figure more than I expected to. The addition of the armored shoulder pads, large printed shield and plume make him appear bigger and more menacing. And I was quite surprised to find the mace is actually a standard 4x bar with a removable head, the castle builders are going to gobble those up. The legs are double shot injected, but with a color so subtly different (at least to my crappy eyes) that I wonder why they bothered.
This series is shaping up quite nicely, with a broad range of excellent minifigs.
