This clown is super adorable with bright colors, cute, silly face and the balloons are simply adorable! Collector or just a Lego fan, this is a must for your Legos. A little pricy, but a one of a kind piece!
To conclude, the LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 18 has continued successfully surprised us with another new level of design creativity.
As great as the design of the Party Clown is, the best part of the minifigure is undoubtedly the two balloon dogs that he comes with. Made out of rigid translucent plastic, the two balloon dogs have highly detailed moulds and are thoroughly impressive. They're my favourite new LEGO accessories. The little details such as the snouts, and tips at the ends of their tails as well as the bulbous shape of the dogs are just amazing, and the fact that we get two of them, in different colours is just an added bonus.
All in all, this minifigure is quite good. He isn't really wearing a crazy costume like some of the other minifigures in the series, and there have been many CMF clowns before, but I like his design and the balloon animals are a nice addition.
For me, my favorites of Series 18 are the Party Clown, Dragon Suit Guy, Birthday Cake Guy, Race Car Guy, and Cowboy Costume Guy. The LEGO Brick Suit costumes are interesting and I do like how they are able to connect to other bricks.
With each new series of LEGO Minifigures, the LEGO Design Team seem to outdo themselves and you would expect them to have run out of ideas, but they have come out swinging for the 40th anniversary of the Minifigure. The new elements are great and it will be interesting to see where they appear next. The additional of an orange baseplate is definitely welcomed although it would of been nice to have the LEGO Minifigures 40th anniversary logo printed on it or even included in a tile. Despite a few minor gripes, this series of LEGO Minifigures is a fitting and fun way to celebrate the 40th anniversary and it's always nice to have a non-licensed series after so many recent ones being based on movies.
The clown comes with two of my favorite accessories of the entire line - the balloon dogs. I don't particularly care for the long orange "tail" of his jacket but otherwise this figure is pretty awesome. Feeling for it isn't too bad, you can either try for the balloon animals or go my route and simply feel for the hat. Just make sure it's not too long (or else you might be feeling one of the larger costume pieces in the series).
Series 18 isn't the first series to feature costumed characters. That began with Series 3's Gorilla Suit Guy, who is arguably the first “minifigure in a costume." Throughout the CMF's history, the costumed characters have been among the most popular, especially with kids, and this series finally indulges costume fans by putting nearly all of its characters in some sort of suit. In keeping with the festive style, this is also the first regular series to use non-black minifigure stands, featuring orange unprinted stands with all of the characters.
I love many of the accessories and head pieces included with this series, but my favourite would be the tile that comes with the young boy: it is printed with as small a representation as you could come up with to be a representation of the packet that the series one figures appeared in years ago. Also up there would have to be the balloon animals. As for my favourite figures? it is a toss up for me between the cowboy, the dragon and the two figures dressed up as LEGO Bricks!
Two balloon animals complete the Party Clown, cast in trans-green and trans-pink. These accessories include fantastic moulded detail so look incredibly realistic, featuring bulbous ears, a nose, four legs and even a narrow tail where the balloon has not been blown up all the way! The body is the width of a standard bar so fits neatly into a minifigure's hand and they can stand up quite easily as well.
In our opinion the LEGO Minifigures Series 18 collection is the best that's been released and we're sure many of our readers will agree. With so many unique minifigures and a costume party vibe, they will be fun to play with and display.
