To conclude, the LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 18 has continued successfully surprised us with another new level of design creativity.
Is a wonderful addition to my collection finally something for the 4th of July
The Firework Guy is just okay to me. I do like the novelty factor of a guy in a Firework rocket suit, but it lacks a certain “wow" factor to make me get excited over it. The execution is decent, but in a Series with so many strong characters, it's for sure one of the weaker ones.
Overall, I think this minifigure is okay. He has relatively limited reusability, and is not the most interesting design to me. I think you can afford to give this a pass, unless you're a completist.
For me, my favorites of Series 18 are the Party Clown, Dragon Suit Guy, Birthday Cake Guy, Race Car Guy, and Cowboy Costume Guy. The LEGO Brick Suit costumes are interesting and I do like how they are able to connect to other bricks.
With each new series of LEGO Minifigures, the LEGO Design Team seem to outdo themselves and you would expect them to have run out of ideas, but they have come out swinging for the 40th anniversary of the Minifigure. The new elements are great and it will be interesting to see where they appear next. The additional of an orange baseplate is definitely welcomed although it would of been nice to have the LEGO Minifigures 40th anniversary logo printed on it or even included in a tile. Despite a few minor gripes, this series of LEGO Minifigures is a fitting and fun way to celebrate the 40th anniversary and it's always nice to have a non-licensed series after so many recent ones being based on movies.
Series 18 isn't the first series to feature costumed characters. That began with Series 3's Gorilla Suit Guy, who is arguably the first “minifigure in a costume." Throughout the CMF's history, the costumed characters have been among the most popular, especially with kids, and this series finally indulges costume fans by putting nearly all of its characters in some sort of suit. In keeping with the festive style, this is also the first regular series to use non-black minifigure stands, featuring orange unprinted stands with all of the characters.
I love many of the accessories and head pieces included with this series, but my favourite would be the tile that comes with the young boy: it is printed with as small a representation as you could come up with to be a representation of the packet that the series one figures appeared in years ago. Also up there would have to be the balloon animals. As for my favourite figures? it is a toss up for me between the cowboy, the dragon and the two figures dressed up as LEGO Bricks!
Moreover, the sunglasses and confident grin printed on the head seem strange for a character dressed as a firework. Perhaps a worried expression would have been more suitable, at least as an alternative to the smile. This is still a fun minifigure though and I particularly like the red gloves which match the colour of the cone.
When I first saw images of Series 18, I was sort of excited for the Firework Guy. He seemed like a cool costumed character that would be quite charming. Unfortunately, there's something about him that makes him seem sort of unfinished compared to most of the other figures in the set. He doesn't get any accessories...and I think the biggest omission is that his fireworks suit doesn't have a fuse of any type. I also have to remark on his unfortunate printing on his pants. Once you remove the firework costume, he looks downright silly (or worse) with an explosion printed on his crotch. Not the finest look, that's for sure.
In our opinion the LEGO Minifigures Series 18 collection is the best that's been released and we're sure many of our readers will agree. With so many unique minifigures and a costume party vibe, they will be fun to play with and display.
