This entire series is an outstanding release with minor rant such as the repeated inclusion of Unikitty design. Overall, I would said this is quite a remarkable release including fulfilling the distribution ratio with 3 complete sets in a sealed box. This alone, is a huge winner to ensure the distribution spread is done appropriately. Furthermore, I also noted with the minifigure neck marking increased the tightness and grip of the head and neck. This is actually great for CMFs which was previously lacking.
Overall The LEGO Movie 2 Collectible Minifigures (71023) series is a pretty interesting one with a number of characters that you wouldn't really expect to see in one of the sets. My favorite one is probably the Giraffe guy as well as the Wizard of Oz crew which are some popular ones among fans. There are also some questionable inclusions such as Emmet and Unikitty. Do we really need another of their variants even though they have been heavily featured in the sets and Unikitty in her series from last year?
The final figure in this huge 20-character lineup is Unikitty, a fan favorite from the previous film. She's already appeared in a myriad of iterations including her whole own CMF series, so while this version is technically new, it's basically indistinguishable from numerous other versions except for minor difference in the expression. One interesting point, though, is that this version has returned to the Unikitty design used in the first LEGO Movie, and not the sturdier redesign with an inverted 1×3 tile used in the CMF line.
I found a few surprises looking through the set, especially with the UV: Bright Green seems to be particularly Bright. I wonder how other elements in this colour look?. Orange is inconsistent: some versions of Bright Orange Fluoresce, others do not. Likewise red: I have some fuselage elements joined together at home: some fluoresce, others don't! Some ‘Bright' colours don't seem to glow at all. Overall, it's a pretty diverse collection!
Only a few months have passed since 41775 Unikitty! Blind Bags Series 1 was released so the news that another Unikitty figure appeared in this series elicited disappointment. However, the character is very popular so I can understand why she is included. This design closely resembles that from 70803 Cloud Cuckoo Palace, even incorporating a 1x3 plate rather than a 1x3 inverted tile that was created for the Unikitty! theme. That results in a loose connection, unfortunately, but it does correspond with the film.
