Space Police Guy is clearly a love letter to Space Police 1 minifigures, from the visor, to the suit underneath, and colour scheme, but I have questions – what's happened to the cheery Classic Space universe that requires such heavy-policing and riot shields? Who exactly is rioting in space and why? I really hope we get to the bottom of this, but in the meantime, the Classic Space geek in me is very happy that we have a refreshed Space Police 1 minifigure included in Series 21.
If the assortment size of an even dozen holds, Series 21 marks a new era for CMFs. And with even distribution in the cases, it's a good thing for fans, who will have an easier time finding their favorite figs or getting a complete series, since all figures will be equally available. The figures themselves don't represent a departure from the status quo, but Series 21 is a solid entry to the CMF lineup with lots of interesting figures whether you like history, whacky costumes, sci-fi fantasy, or just getting more fun occupations.
As much as I enjoy the licensed series, the original characters are a little more fun, which is undoubtedly the case here. They also seem to be the source for some great new pieces and accessories. Many of which, filter into other LEGO sets. It's difficult to choose any particular stand out character from this series Minifigures, but I do like the various accessories included with each character. They offer a mix of new pieces and current elements used in cool ways. Although we lose 4 characters this time around and if rumours are correct, this will be the case with future series, I think it's a good decision.
My favourite minifigures include the Shipwreck Survivor, the Ancient Warrior and the Alien, in some cases based upon their impressive accessories while others simply feature tremendous detail. Reducing the number of minifigures has certainly not affected their quality and provides children with an easier opportunity to collect every character before the next series is released. On that basis, I am delighted with these Collectable Minifigures!
