Obviously my "overall" rating is not an average of the preceding scores. For me, the set deserves a perfect 10 for what it is: a massive set geared towards the adult collector. There are tons of neat micro builds throughout the process and the end result is a display piece that looks equally good from the front as it does the back. This is most definitely not much of a play set (though if I had the set as a kid I'm sure I would make the castle the center of whatever battles I was making up). The selection of minifigures isn't great, but if you bought into the Disney Collectible line then you have lots of choices to fill up the castle. Despite the sets massive cost, it's worth every penny! Go get it before LEGO stops making it, that's my advice.

This LEGO set makes a wonderful display piece for any Disney fan who also likes building with LEGO. It really captures the look of the original castle and brings in a lot of fun elements from some favorite Disney movies. There are many elements that kids will want to play with, and maybe Mom or Dad or an older sibling will let them play with this set once its built, but this is really going to be more of a set for fans and collectors to keep out on display.

Fun and nice set to build. Took me about 11 hours to complete with out the lights. Bought the lights and added them and took about 1.5 hours to add them in. Kids and wife love it.

Won toy of the year award, what else is there to say? Also, we don't have kids but we are Disney fanatics and sharing the experience of building this with my wife was wonderful. She loved it for her birthday gift!

The Disney Castle is as close to a work of art as we are likely ever to get in a LEGO set. Not since the Taj Mahal have we been gifted with such an exquisitely detailed set. Some sets can be sourced after the fact, this will not be one of them and I highly doubt that the LEGO Group is going to produce another Disney Castle for decades. The few criticisms of this set pale in comparison to its magnificence – so pick this one up while it's on general release.

71040 Cinderella's Castle is a wonderful LEGO set. It isn't cheap, but for the price you get an immense quantity of bricks for you or your kids to play with if you ever tire of having the castle on display. The building process is long, but thoroughly enjoyable, and regardless of your level of experience you're going to learn some nice new tricks and building techniques.

Does one of the most anticipated LEGO sets in recent memory live up to expectations? In a word, yes. It's solidly and intelligently constructed, absolutely stuffed to the brim with all sorts of Disney references new and old, and does a wonderful job of translating an iconic cultural touchstone into a brick-based form.

If you are a Disney fan, I imagine it is a must-have. If you crave large, challenging LEGO® builds this is definitely something out of the ordinary. If you love to wow your friends with your latest LEGO display, this is a great choice — aside from being appealing and highly detailed with loads of rooms inside referencing different Disney films, it is a good shape for display in that the model's footprint is relatively small compared to the overall height.

This is a tremendous set and I highly recommend it. The level of detail is extraordinary and the design of the castle is absolutely perfect. It looks brilliant on display and offers great potential for play as well, with plenty of hidden details to explore. I can never choose a single favourite set but this is definitely a strong contender and if I were to recommend just one set from 2016, 71040 Disney Castle would be it!

When faced with the completed model, it is simply spectacular. Both in it's size and complexity, but also in how LEGO have managed to capture the design of the real building in such close detail. There are a lot of advanced building techniques used throughout the model, however it can get a bit repetitive at times. My kids helped me with the build and had no real problems with the techniques, however did get bored at times. There are plenty of playable aspects to the model, and the Disney minifigs are an instant hit with the kids. Due to it's size, it's not easily moved around unless you detach the floors, which thankfully is made much easier with the use of single stud tiles.

It may have taken me a few weeks to build, and that's by choice, but I've really enjoyed the build. It has some amazingly detailed sections and unique build techniques, along with a nice collection of sections celebrating the long history of Disney's animated storytelling magic. If you have collected the first series of Disney Series LEGO Minifigures and plan on getting the rumoured second series due later this year, then you'll need to add this enchanted set to your collection as well.
