We (my 6 year old son and I) are fans of Lego Ninjago Series. We were very excited about the X1- Ninja charger. The scene Kai pursued the Nindroids with X1-Ninja charger (with that great background music) is one of our favorite Ninjago scenes. First of all, the build is very modular which allows you to work on small modules for easy handling - so my son could easily build the modular pieces in his hand rather than trying to connect pieces to the large built. You then assembly these modules to form the main car. Secondly, this set has great playability. The bike comes out little difficult sometimes but we fixed it by removing the black pieces (4504382) from the bike (which tends to hit the flat gray pieces at the bottom of the car - #4211568). Finally, the set comes with great mini figure selection including limited addition golden Cole. We highly recommend this set!!!
Sadly, I do not really like this set. Ultimately, I have no use for an oversized car. The design does not look bad. However, it looks childish and not display worthy. Consequently, I will not put it in my city, and I will not put it on my shelves. The pieces in this kit will be straight repurposed. I am happy that I got another of the golden ninjas, but I am equally happy I did not have to pay for this set to get it. With that said, the set is not bad. It is just not for me.
If you like LEGO sets that look cool when displayed on a shelf, the X-1 Ninja Charger won't disappoint. If you like fun build experiences, collecting cool minifigures, or buying sets with lots of useful parts for your own creations, there's a lot to like here too. If you're a Ninjago fan who missed out on the original, this is a great way to catch up on or grow your collection without having to turn to the secondary market. But if you buy sets to check out the cool play features and to vroom or swoosh them around, I have to recommend you give this set a pass.
A brief look through Kai's vehicles from recent years will demonstrate that the LEGO Group took a while to really perfect the right balance between style and substance. Revisiting a set from six years ago that didn't quite get that balance right was a risk, and one that ultimately – when priced at £44.99 – hasn't paid off for fans.
The LEGO Ninjago Legacy X-1 Ninja Charger (71737) is a decent set with most of the value going towards the minifigures. The only downside is that the minifigures are duplicates from other sets in this 2021 wave. The X-I Ninja Charger itself is a nice upgrade from the 2015 version with some good detailing all around. It doesn't look as bulky now but instead has a more sleeker profile.
I have some seriously mixed feelings about this set. Compared to the source material and original version, the updated X-1 does feel like an interesting change to the design. At $49.99 US for 599 pieces, the price for a part comes in at just over eight cents, which isn't terrible considering it includes five minifigures. The build is straightforward but interesting. There's a good mix of useful parts for those looking to reuse elements in their own creations. But overall, this set left me cold. The play features are either weirdly self-limiting or don't work at all. The minifigure assortment is weak compared to other Legacy sets, with only a single exclusive figure. And, darn it, I liked the classic look of the X-1 better.
Futuristic vehicles are not generally what appeal to me about NINJAGO, although 71737 X-1 Ninja Charger looks marvellous. The racing aesthetic is notably successful in my opinion and the vehicle appears powerful so retains that feature of 70727 X-1 Ninja Charger as well, even though its prominence is arguably reduced. Personally, I appreciate such substantial changes but I recognise that many fans prefer subtler alterations for Legacy sets.
