There are few UCS sets out there that transcends that LEGO “look" into a model that is unrecognizable as LEGO and more of a high-end toy collectible model or, dare I say it, art. 75060 Slave I does exactly that. At some point, it stops being a collection of LEGO pieces and becomes this art piece being proudly displayed on your mantle. A lot of it has to do with just how smooth everything looks from the base to the new windscreen. There are couple of areas of exposed studs which, if anything, gives it an industrial look, like rivets. The studs also anchor the set back into reality as a thing made out of LEGO. Had those been completely smoothed over, it would have pushed the model further into the realm of not-LEGO, but it's just fine the way it is. It's a bit of a mind-twist and makes anyone looking at go, “Whoah!" followed up with, “Wait, is that… LEGO?" At that point you can watch their minds being blown as you say, “Why yes, yes it is."
Slave 1 and the minifigures allow Star Wars fans to recreate classic scenes from Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. The Slave 1 will also look great in a Star Wars display.
This set is beautiful. In my opinion, one of the best all round LEGO UCS sets there are. I'm not really a big fan of the Slave I or Boba Fett but I had to have this set. I built this very quickly, despite its size and level of complexity, but a less experienced LEGO fan could easily build this and get 8-10 building hours from it. The set is a perfect combination of display ability and functionality and is a great value for money. This was my first UCS set and it has given an amazing taste of what the others would be like. I would recommend this set to anyone who likes LEGO, and looks amazing for both play and display!
I can't say enough for this set. It's very big, it's a unique shape and it's fun to build. The finished product has clean lines and is very impressive. It can be a centerpiece to a whole collection, much like the Death Star. The figures are great, though similar to ones from other sets. Any Boba Fett fan should get this set. It also comes with parts to build a custom stand to display it.
So I really do think this set is great; even with its few inaccuracies. LEGO did a great job capturing the overall shape of the ship, just a few of the functions don't agree with the actual ship. Oddly enough the ship is easily swooshed, but it can be rather interesting to get it on the stand; there's not really a good spot to hold it from. The minifigures are fantastic; Boba can't get any better. One thing I would have liked to have seen was the mines from Attack of the Clones; though I know they weren't in Ep. V.
I'll just come straight out and say it – this is a superb model. It's huge, it looks fantastic and the build is thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. For a number of good reasons even LEGO flagship Ultimate Collector Series models generally suffer by comparison with the efforts of Star Wars MOC specialists such as cavegod and Anio, but on this occasion I reckon the official version is at least as big, and at least as good, as any of the Slave 1 MOCs I've seen online or in the flesh.
The Slave I is an iconic Star Wars ship, and LEGO has done it justice with this model. This is the coolest set I've reviewed in a long time, and any Star Wars fan is sure to love it. It's also a great parts pack if you can bring yourself to disassemble it.
