Received this set as a birthday present from a friend. This is by far the best X-Wing set I have owned to date. The construction is solid, the s-foil mechanics are perfect (with the satisfying SNAP when they lock into place), and it just looks GREAT when done!
I'm a 25 year old guy who grew up watching Star Wars since I was like 4, there was no way I could resist getting as many of the new toys that my wallet could put up with. I honestly cannot remember the last time I put a Lego model together; it has to have been at least 10-15 years. That being said, it took a good 4 hours to construct it since I made sure I did not miss any pieces per step. The finishing product was truly amazing. I cannot remember Lego models being so detailed. The S-foils easily split due to the mechanism that's constructed, and the 'lasers' surprisingly shoot a good 10-15 feet depending on your trajectory. All in all, I can honestly say that this is by far my favorite new Star Wars product to date and I would highly recommend it to not only fans of Lego but all fans of Star Wars.
The X-wing features a cockpit with space for one minifigure, and a port for BB-8. There are stud shooters on the sides of the ship and spring-loaded missiles on the wings. The wings, also known as S-Foils, can be automatically opened and closed by turning a knob on top of the ship.
I like its look and it's so freaking awesome to fly it around. Nothing beats flying an X-wing. I feel it's on the expensive side, though, and £59.99 (UK), $59.99 (U.S.), $109.99 (Aus), and $129.99 (NZ) would be a better price for it. The minifigure selection could've been a bit better too.
Minor faults notwithstanding, this is an excellent model that's a thing of beauty and great to play (swoosh) with. It's everything a good Star Wars model should be: a faithful representation of an iconic vehicle with a great selection of minifigs, although how closely it matches the 'real' thing yet I don't know.
Despite my aversion to black LEGO parts, fleshie minifigs, flick-fire missiles, and rubber bands, this is a great set. It's sturdy, swooshable, and sleek, with all the functionality you'd expect from an X-wing. And with stunning minifigs, I can heartily recommend this set to even the most casual of Star Wars fans.
I think the two or three small problems don't diminish the success of this model. It's slick, colorful and elegant, with a very interesting build process, a couple of play feature, great minifigs, etc.The couple of small side builds is not that great but at least adds playability.
