My son really enjoys legos and Lego star wars he has built so may set and enjoys them all have had any problems with any set I have bought on Amazon. All pieces were there and sent on time
This small set is packed with features that allow fans to recreate the battle between the First Order and Resistance from The Force Awakens. The completed set will also look great in a display.
I like this set for the play features and the scene it's based on. I really enjoy playing with it, even though most of the I like to put my LEGO up on shelves, but this one I use in stop-motion, and play purposes.
The minifigs are excellent and it sure is nice that there's a lot of them. Kylo, Finn and Maz are all important characters in this location and if you, like me, skipped Kylo's command shuttle, this is a good opportunity to get the minifig. The build itself is a mixed bag for me: I really like the design and color scheme, and the play features, which this set has a lot of, are mostly nice and okay. But somehow, it still feels incomplete, especially considering a pretty high RRP of EUR 59,99 (around 65 USD!).
Overall, this is a set that will be definitely bought for the figures. The build is okay but nothing impressive (and too small). The playability is reasonable, but the price is not.
This of course is compounded by the set's expensive AU$90 price tag. Minifig-value aside, it just does not feel like a AU$90 set at all thanks to the unremarkable and diminutive model. If you already own the Millennium Falcon and Kylo Ren's Command Shuttle, you're much better off just purchasing the Maz Kanata minifigure off Bricklink. If you don't own the Falcon and Command Shuttle, this set becomes a lot more appealing, which is why I can't quite fully lambaste this set as I fall into that category.
There is nothing about this set that justifies the $60 price tag. Sure, Maz is an entirely new figure, but otherwise Finn and the Stormtroopers are the same and Kylo Ren only gets a new head. This is at best a $50 set, and that's probably pushing it.
Underwhelming. Think about it - the biggest draws about this set are the rare ‘figs, not the actually set. Therefore, the design can afford to be a bit sloppier in exchange. This generally seems to happen with the minifigs > everything sets, unless both categories are hopeless.
It is unusual to see quite such an effective blend of play and display value in a location based Star Wars set and I hope to this trend continue throughout 2016 and beyond. The price has come in for significant criticism but I do not think it is too bad. If we compare it to something at a similar price point like 75084 Wookiee Gunship then this seems like a far better option based on the quality of the set.
I think they are both equally good sets. Battle on Takodana scores slightly better in the minifigure department, but Battle on Scarif scores slightly better in the build department. I recommend them equally, but I think you should pick up 75139 Battle on Takodana first, as it was released a year before 75171 Battle on Scarif.
As much as I do like this set, the price is high enough that it becomes a key consideration in my recommendation. I'd recommend waiting to pick this up until large retailers like Amazon inevitably put this on 15-20% discount. But if you're worried you'll miss out on Maz Kanata by waiting too long and you don't want to dish out a combined $270 to get Kylo Ren and Finn in other sets, $60 isn't such a bad deal.
