Having bought Poe's X wing, I can say that both sets are fairly similar and aside from the color schemes, there are only a few minor differences. - Cockpit features different joystick control piece - Cockpit has a fire-extinguisher - Hyperdrive is removable If you are choosing between this set and Poe's X wing, it comes down to which color scheme and minfigures you prefer. I included some photos for comparisons between the two x wings.
I find this set pretty great and fun. The problem with this set is that it is too similar to Poe Dameron's x wing. That statement is the only real problem I have with this set. Sure some pieces are exposed but they dont bother me. The design is very slick and detailed. The minifigures also add to the sets value. I also prefer this color scheme rather than the black and orange design. Overall i would give it an 8/10.
This could have been a solid 9 but with a slightly higher price I have to slightly reduce the rating. Apart from that, a great set to play or collect.
My take on this set is not entirely objective – my point of comparison is the LEGO Group's very first blocky rendition of this ship. In that context, 75149 looks like a Porsche next to a Honda Civic. The evolution of the LEGO versions of this starfighter have been gradual, so I am guessing folks who have one of the last few renditions would not find this one quite the revelation I did (I understand that 75102 Poe's X-wing Fighter is an almost identical build). That said, if you have one of the older X-wings and are ready for a new one, then this set is a great upgrade that I highly recommend.

I think this is not a bad model, however, it is too similar to 75102, so not so many points due to lack of creativity. The minifigure selection is nice but definitely too small, but playability is alright (swooshing around an X-wing is fun as ever). The price though… eh.
My final recommendation for this set is going to be essentially the same as it was for the previous X-wing: Not really worth the price, except on sale. I also think the lack of the only interesting potential play feature (the retracting belly gun) was a really cool opportunity the designers missed.
