75187 BB-8 won Construction Toy of the Year from this year's Toy Fair awards. It is well deserved and like I said earlier in the post, it belong on the desk of every Star Wars fan, young and old. It looks accurate but there's more to this model than just good looks. If you're exploring how to build geometric shapes out of LEGO, BB-8 would make a great case study into spheres. Even the two play features can teach a few things on moving parts within a model.
My husband bought this beautiful little BB-8 for me for Christmas this year and let me say, it was a wonderful build. So much more fun than I anticipated. I expected it to be repetitive, it was not in any way. The gears you create to control the movement of his head are brilliant. This set won't let you down. It's also very heavy and durable. There are a lot of pieces holding him together.
Customer Video Review Length:: 3:06 Mins This is a great lego set with nice internal gears for movement that any Star Wars fan will love. It took my 10 year old son about 8 hours to assemble it and he only needed my help for 2 pages and that was minor stuff. It's a collector's item set so it includes a nice display stand and a minifig of BB8. Please view the video (that he made himself) showing the features of this Lego set and will show you the scale of the set.
Perhaps the reason 75187 BB-8 is such an enjoyable experience, both as a build and as a completed model, is that character sculptures come along so rarely in the LEGO Star Wars theme. If the execution is as perfect as it is in this case every time, then it really is worth the wait. If you buy only one LEGO set from the Star Wars: The Last Jedi range, then buy this one – BB-8 stole the show in The Force Awakens, and now the plucky droid does the same in the LEGO Star Wars 2017 line-up.
So… quite a cool set! I think the features all work pretty well and the model looks quite nice!
This is a truly fantastic set. The spherical shape has been rendered very effectively and I love the detailed tool bay discs, each of which features a unique design, just as in the movie. The model looks magnificent on display, particularly since the black stand presents an attractive contrast with the bright white and orange of BB-8, although I think it is equally impressive when standing alone without additional support.
Despite its fairly small size, LEGO BB-8 is full of personality. The “thumbs up" feature is pretty cool, and his wobbly head is downright charming. At $100 for about 1,100 pieces (plus a minifig you probably already have a handful of from other The Force Awakens sets), this really isn't a great parts pack.
