The high cost is a hard pill to swallow but fortunately, the set is so full of win you'll get over the sticker shock easily. This is one of those instances where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts and should be owned by anyone who has ever bought a LEGO Marvel Super Heroes set, a fan of X-Men, or both.
All of the toys in this set give X-Men fans a fun way to recreate scenes from the movie, come up with their own scenes or stage everything in a display.
For the X-Men fan this is just about the dream set (but for the X-Mansion I suppose) and the characters and vehicles recreated alone are bound to make this a popular set. At a slightly higher price point this set might have been improved a little as the two models could be a little bigger, but as it stands this is still a fantastic set.
If you're just a casual super hero fan, you might want to look at some of the other sets that LEGO has to offer. But if you are even a modest fan of X-Men, get this set. It does a great job of capturing the characters, the Sentinel, and the Blackbird. And although the wings and fins of the Blackbird are lackluster, I found the ship to be one of the smoother and more swooshable LEGO ships to come out recently.
The price might be hard to swallow, but there are a ton of good basic bricks, slopes and cool colors in here.
