The Tumbler

I've heard about the reviews about this kit and pictures prior to its premier at the Lego stores. It peaked my interest and purchased it. First thing I noticed is this huge box with an awesome eye-catching picture of the tumbler. Second thing I noticed is the heft of the box, quit heavy. Upon opening the box and laying out its contents, there were packages numbering from 1 to 11. It also came with 4 instruction booklets. Start the fun of assembling this kit with package 1. Basically, building the frame of the tumbler with package 1. I didn't want to rush in building the tumbler so I stopped after package 2. At this point, it is still in the frame stages. You have to fight the urge to build it to completion in record time. This is why I build mines in 5 days. I savor the excitement of building it a package at a time. I assembled the interior and noted the details. When the wheels and tires are added, it started to take the tumbler shape. When the body plates was added, it began to have the menacing look of the tumbler. When the wings was added, it began to have an aerodynamic look (fast). Upon completion, lo and behold the tumbler emerges. It is the heaviest LEGO kit I have assembled so far. Thoroughly enjoyed putting it together. The only things I didn't like are the unfinished damping (gray) rods on the sides and gold airfoil rods on the rear. I would probably replace them with technics connecting rods. Also the rear springs can be replaced with technics shock absorbers. more less

This is a fantastic display set for the Tumbler. It is a wonderful looking set and if you are a fan of Batman's Tumbler from Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, then you need to get this. It is a near perfect model of the Tumbler, as perfect as it can get when made from LEGO. I'll give it 4.5 out of 5, as there are some elements of it that are not perfect. The cover plates on the Tumbler are flimsy as they are connected via clips to give it the Tumbler shape. It is quite expensive and possibly the UCS (Ultimate Collector Series) for Batman unless Lego decide to come out with other Batman vehicles in similar proportions. This is now retired and will surely go up more over the years. Get it while you can! more less

It's easy to sum up my thoughts on this beast: It's a great display piece. It does a fantastic job of capturing some of the intricate angles and shapes of the on-screen vehicle. With that said, that's about it. It can roll forward and back, and you can remove the roof panels to see some of the interior. I'd love to have seen an extra $100-200 dumped into this to make it larger and throw in a functioning removable Batpod, but i'll take what I can get. more less

On balance, for me, the pros outweigh the cons. The building experience was excellent and it will take pride of place in my display cabinet. I don't tend to play with my models once built so the fact there's nothing to actually play with doesn't worry me. If however you do, and expect to have fun with it once it's built, it may not be the set for you. more less

There is no doubt that this model looks amazing. It is a huge car and any Batman fan must have it. However, I feel it is more of a collector/display set as it simply cannot be handled without breaking. more less
