I mainly wanted this series for the Black Manta and Batman mini figures but after completing the set it is actually more fun than I thought. I am not a big fan of the submarine nor many of the ridiculous looking bat vehicles that come with these sets, but as a collector I just go with it...nothing much different here, but I did like it more than most of the other sets. The Aquaman figure is great. And the "trap" with Robin is clever and fun to play with. The real gems here are Black Manta and his vehicle. It is just like his sub from the comics. It is well built and has a unique look to it.
As with all LEGO, the building is fun, and the instructions are super clear. But it's also fun to build active, narrative adventures around the characters. This set can inspire kids to create their own Justice League fun.
There is value here, with a decent number of parts and some good elements mixed in, but the fact that the only truly unique figures are Robin and Black Manta (only Batman's head is unique and Aquaman is a repeat) and nothing about the set is really notable.
This is an overpriced set that should really only cost $60 at the very most. There's so little value in this and the fact that ardent DC Super Heroes fans will end up with two identical Aquamen is a huge slap in our collective faces. You're not missing out on a whole lot if you just ignore this set or wait till it goes on clearance. Don't let the box size fool you, it's just not worth it.
This is not a bad set as a whole and the Black Manta minifigure is going to be a must have for many DC fans I am sure, but priced at £49.99 I don't recommend it. At a decent sale price of perhaps £34.99 or even less this is a good buy, although even then I would probably recommend other Super Heroes sets over this one.
