This large set lets LEGO builders construct the classic Batcave, and then play out or stage multiple scenarios based on the old TV show. You can open the secret bookcase door, place Bruce and Dick behind the bookcase, then switch to the Batman and Robin minifigs for the slide down the pole--just like the characters used to do in the TV show. The entire set is filled with small details, like the study's iconic red Batphone, and hinged Shakespeare bust with secret button underneath. Fans of the original series will appreciate these details, and that makes this set very collectible.

Okay again I am a hopeless Batman who spends more time thinking about Batman than my own girlfriend (Take that as you wish) So when I saw the first image of this set I has already mentally bought it. I grew up watching Adam West play a middle aged well nourished Batman with his Mid 30's "Boy" Wonder but never-the-less this set filled me with joy. It speaks to all Batman fans young and old! I know the price is steep and many younger Lego acolytes may not be able to afford this but you have to agree what you get makes it all worth while. Looking at what you get in the set is pretty remarkable! The Batmobile, Batcopter and the Batbike are all remarkably well made and to perfect scale. I was also extremely impressed with the detail of all of the accessories and bits-and-bobs from the Batcomputer to the Wayne Manor Detailing and even the many bats hanging around the place. The set fits together very well with the cave detail really standing out! I was impressed with the outer building facade too which lets you create those lovely ( if not very cheesy and regular) scenes of Bats and Robin scaling a building!. Another important feature of this set is the very fulfilling feature of revealing the poles and ability to have Bats and Robin slide down the poles after changing (spine tingling stuff). The thing I love about this set more than anything is the selection of Minifigures! you have them all from the classic Joker with Caesar Romeros faint moustache to the flabby built of the Bat-West Figure. The only downside of this set is Bat-Girl would have been a good addition and you need a large area to store it just because of the sheer size and the structures could secure together better but other than that I have to say well done Lego! So quickly run to your Batcomputer and buy it! you don't wanna let Batman down do you?
Wow, I saw this advertised on Lego.com and was wanting it. Amazon had the priced $100 more then Lego, so I was saving up, but then a lightning deal cam and it was mine. The set it the biggest set I have built by 700 pieces. I put it together with my boys. I am very happy at some for the face paints. Alfred and Joker are great. You can even see Cesar Romero's mustache. This is a challenge. I had the main tower fall a few times. Some things are not accurate. The helicopter seats only one, the Batmobile is has 2 exhaust tubes not 3, and the motorcycle sidecar does not have have support for self, but it is Lego and I can make it to the way I want. Building this with my kids gave me a chance to get him to watch the TV show. I hope Lego does a fallow up with Batgirl and here motorcycle. Maybe with her dad the Commissioner and Chief O'Hara.
For the Batcave set itself, it was a fun build and not as repetitive as I initially thought although the cave part of the Wayne Manor section was intersting. I did like the way the rock formations for each of the three different sections but building parts of them was more finicky than others. The use of the BURPs on the atomic reactor section was nicely done however the overhanging rock areas are flimsy and can be broken rather easily.
In terms of raw brick count, mini-fig selection, and that stellar Batmobile, this set represents reasonable value for money. But let's face it, it's gonna be a display model. And sadly I feel like it makes for a pretty ugly display model. It's a mish-mash of memorable elements from the show crammed together with a bunch of chaotic rockwork.
This is a really tricky set to sum up. I love it, despite its faults. The minifigures I believe to be perfect, one and all. The study is wonderful, and there are lots of nods to the details of the show. The atomic reactor is a great centrepiece and is beautifully framed by the tan walls. The Batmobile is close enough to the real one that I'm happy with it. I'm sure I will be re-enacting scenes from the show and adding extra little builds to the set.
I have very mixed opinions on this set. At $270, I would expect either a really great display piece, like the UCS Tumbler or Ghostbusters Firehouse HQ or SHIELD Helicarrier, or I would expect an action-packed playset. This set struggles to be either of those, it really doesn't know what it wants to be. It's not a great display piece; There's a lot of unfinished looking segments, no floor for the extras, and the manor section is quite tall. It's not really a great playset because the only "features" it has is the batpole/platform and a sliding bookcase, both of which require manual effort to achieve instead of any neat functions.
When this set was announced, I was already planning to save up to get it. When the opportunity came around to review it, I did not hesitate once to volunteer to do so. I highly recommend, if you are an AFOL who absolutely enjoyed Batman, I can't recommend it enough.
So, so close to being an automatic recommendation. Get this set, without any hesitation or regret if you're a fan of the only Batman not to disappear into his own cowl in a scowly broody haze of self-involvement. Get this set if you're a fan of the awesome minifigures. Get this set if you want to extend and improve, it's an excellent basis for a full sized super-MOC. Don't get this set if you're annoyed by the price. It's not terrible value, but just falls on the side of too expensive in the UK. In other territories it's comparable with other licensed IP and, especially in Canada, this would - and should - be a recommended purchase.
