This is truly a well-crafted set. The ship itself is sturdy and shows true craftsmanship. Central ship: Grade: 97 The ships detail to the film is excellent. Adding the well-designed structure makes this a ship that stands out above the rest in the Marvel sets. I would truly recommend this set for the ship alone Secondary Ship/structure: Grade: 76 While the main ship is excellent the set lacks in creativity with the other two parts of the sets. while the second set is well designed to the film, I wish it were bigger or could even fit the figure of Ayesha in the ship. Maybe it would have been better to make it a separate set so it could be more technical or advanced. As for the red structure, the only thing that can be said is that it's just there. It doesn't resemble anything in the Marvel universe and seems like just a few extra parts. Figures: Grade: 98 The figures are excellent in their detail. The best by far is Yondu (I'm Mary Poppins Y'all) with his awesome mohawk and golden arrow. Peter Quill And Groot are loyal to the film counter parts and look good with the set. Ayesha works well with the set as well. Overall Score:88 While I commend Lego for the expertly crafted ship and figures, it feels like they add a lazy secondary ship and structure to make it the price of 30$. I would say this would be excellent at the price of 20$. However, that being said I was still highly impressed with most of it. As for playability, I have a 6-year-old nephew that absolutely adores it.
Customer Video Review Length:: 15:43 Mins Of the three sets LEGO release for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, this is the mid-priced set and great value (with Amazon's current 20% discount). The minifigures are nicely detailed and desirable plus we get the awesome baby Groot in his Ravager outfit which is exquisitely printed for such a tiny character. The two ships are nice build, especially the Laser Drill ship which has a great sliding mechanism for Yondu to get into the cockpit and some very unique and large printed pieces. Nice job LEGO! Film tie-in sets can be hit and miss, but this set is a joy to build and…ahem…play with. The main set build experience was nothing remotely challenging for even a casual LEGO builder, but the end results are both aesthetically and ergonomically pleasing. The use of stickers was so minimal and easy to place that it didn't cause the usual pains involved. Throw in two smaller builds and some excellent minifigures, and for a price point of £30 you have a pretty decent set. Time will tell if it's close to the source material but, as a standalone playset, the LEGO Group has succeeded on all accounts.
If you're a Guardians of the Galaxy fan, this is an easy buy for you to pick up the minifigures. Just look at the Laser Drill Spaceship as a nice little bonus to go with a great cast of minifigs and Baby Groot.
A good measure of how decent a set is going to be can be puzzled out from the LEGO Shop@Home listings… though being able to measure it requires you to have a good handle on marketing speak. Say what you want about LEGO, they have a marketing department that can spin a word salad with the best of them. With this set… I'm not sure they even tried. There are nine bullet points in the product description: three of them are just measurements, two (and parts of another) are trying to explain to you what that red blob is.
