Monkey King Warrior Mech

Wow! I have to say that this is probably one of the best mech LEGO has ever offered, it is so huge and different. Trust me it even looks prettier in person, I have a tons of mechs from different themes, this one just stands out among all of them. While building there were a lot of new techniques and designs with the pieces, also includes many rare golden pieces. I think for people who already knew something about the Monkey King are gonna enjoy this even more, but if not it is still an amazing piece for collection and role play. This is a very impressive set. A stunning colour scheme, excellent stature, unique parts inclusions that will be sure to excite the parts fans among us. It's able to withstand a bit of pushing and pulling to position it, and has some nice support build inclusions as well. more less

Once complete, first impressions are great. The outcome is a huge figure with a lot of cool features, it easily fits a minifigure and also has great arm movements. Unfortunately the articulation comes at the cost of less coverage of the joints. The elbows, especially, don't look too good from the back or when the arm is straight. The movement of the legs isn't really there; no knee joints and the feet are also fairly limited, so you can't pose a walking or kicking mech. more less

Obviously it becomes more worth it once you get to stand it up and add all of the various accenting bits. The head, much like Demon Bull King's, just oozes personality. I could maybe have done without the odd antennae, but the golden bananas as eyebrows are inspired. The previously mentioned foil bits come into play here; some are clothing-esque items, while the smaller ones become flags on the back. One thing I would have liked to see in the instruction book is perhaps a note of what the individual characters that appear on the flags mean. LEGO has done a good job of respectfully adapting Chinese culture for this, so it would be nice to see them going the extra mile for an educational opportunity. more less

I love the range of builds in this set! There is an attention to detail at every level that makes each of the models a joy to build. for me, the weakest link is the bad guys and their little mech. Overall this is an amazing set and certainly worth every penny. I'm already excited to dig into another Monkie Kid set! more less
